Hopkinsville, spared from the devastation of the weekend storms, is now in a position to help people in surrounding communities whose homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed.
Several homes were heavily damaged or destroyed in Southern Christian County late Friday night and county rescue team members and sheriff’s deputies began searching Pembroke and surrounding areas Saturday morning for anyone who was hurt or trapped in storm wreckage.
As of Saturday evening, the omicron variant had been detected in at least 15 different states. And while it's too early to say if the most recent variant of concern will be as dangerous as delta, preliminary evidence suggests it may spread faster and be more likely to reinfect individuals who previously contracted coronavirus.
The portraits are an expression of the community's care for families who lost loved ones to the virus, said one of the painters who helped organize the project for the Hopkinsville Art Guild.
During the Unity Breakfast, awards were also presented to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, the Salvation Army and the Christian County Health Department for the work during the coronavirus pandemic.
