Numerous activities are planned at the Kentucky Historical Society. A fireworks show set to music will wrap up the event.

The Chair Project raised $3,680 for Sanctuary Inc. as bidders packed Hopkinsville Brewing Co. to claim creatively remade chairs, benches and stools, while Hoptown Chronicle honored the winners of its companion chair-themed haiku contest.

The mural was installed Friday outside WB Express, a carry-out restaurant at Fifth and Main streets. Two smaller painted pieces were installed in front of the Alhambra Theatre.

Kelly Selfe, who most recently served as arts education coordinator at the Pennyroyal Arts Council, will lead the art museum in downtown Cadiz.

One of the organization's goals was to prove that a town the size of Hopkinsville could produce music at a high level of artistry.

The program provides artists with marketing support, networking opportunities, business training and statewide and national exposure.

The group’s first concert will be on Saturday, June 20, at the Alhambra Theatre.

Saturday’s gathering in the park alongside the public library was not the first LGBTQ event locally, but Pride in the Park was likely the most visible event of its kind to date in Hopkinsville. 

Slated Sept. 11-12, the downtown festival will feature four outdoor concerts, dozens of food trucks, community booths and children's activities.

Community members are invited to write haiku inspired by all the ways we use and rely upon chairs. Send them to us by June 24 to be considered for the top prize.

The bell hooks Book Club meets monthly at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. The next meeting is June 15.
