bell hooks Book Club has next gathering on July 20

The group is currently reading “Salvation: Black People and Love.”

The bell hooks Book Club will have its next gathering at 6 p.m. Monday, July 20, at the Pennyroyal Area Museum, 217 E. Ninth St., to continue its discussion of “Salvation: Black People and Love.”

The book club focuses on one chapter per meeting, and this month is devoted to Chapter 4 of “Salvation.”

“Writer, cultural critic, feminist icon and Hopkinsville native bell hooks makes an urgent call for a cultural return to a love ethic as she explores the legacy of slavery, Black masculinity, the crisis of self-love, and a return to a beloved community,” Alissa Keller, museum executive director, said in a press release.

The book club is open to anyone interested in learning more about the works of bell hooks. The informal meetings are held in the museum’s bell hooks Legacy Room, which is furnished with the late author personal belongings.

“Salvation” is available to purchase in The Vault by Planters Bank Museum Shop, or online through the museum’s Shopify store — or to check out from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County, the bell hooks Legacy Group, Hoptown Chronicle and the Christian County Literacy Council sponsor the book club.
