The touring troupe Kentucky Shakespeare will perform “Much Ado About Nothing” for Shakespeare in the Park on Monday, Sept. 28, at the Greenway Amphitheatre in downtown Hopkinsville.
The Pennyroyal Arts Council is sponsoring the event in partnership with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.
Community members are invited to bring a picnic and dress in their favorite Elizabethan attire for the free event, the arts council announced in a press release. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Pre-show activities, including food truck sales and interactive youth activities, will begin at 5 p.m., and the Shakespeare play will begin at 6 p.m.
“We are thrilled to partner with Kentucky Shakespeare and our local public library to offer this rich cultural experience to Hopkinsville free of charge,” Bri Smith, education coordinator for the Pennyroyal Arts Council, said in the release. “Grab a blanket, pack your favorite picnic spread, and don’t be afraid to dress up in costume!”
The production is made possible by a $5,000 Performing Arts Touring Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.
The amphitheatre is located next to the public library at Ninth and Bethel streets. In the event of severe weather, the performance will move indoors at the Alhambra Theatre.
