The city of Hopkinsville is asking for volunteers to serve on boards and commissions for local government.
A post on the city’s Facebook page encourages residents to “join a board or commission and make a difference.”
According to the post, there are several agencies with governing boards that need members. These include Hopkinsville Electric System, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, Housing Authority of Hopkinsville, Human Rights Commission, Inner-City (Legacy) Advisory Committee, Pennyroyal Area Museum Board and South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council.
The boards are responsible for oversight of agency policies and finances. In some cases, they make decisions about hiring the agency’s highest ranking employee.
Most board appointments are made by the mayor. Some require city council approval.
More information about volunteering is available by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 270-890-0210 or by emailing clerk@h-ky.us.
