Should the city of Hopkinsville make costly repairs to the Bluegrass Splash water park — or should the facility be closed or converted to an alternative use?
These questions about the future of the water park will be the focus of a town hall seeking community input at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, 715 S. Virginia St.
The water park has leaks in three major pipes. The city estimates it will cost $350,000 to $400,000 to repair the leaks, Public Woks Director Mike Perry told Hoptown Chronicle in an email.
“These pipes are located approximately 4–6 feet underground, and until excavation begins, the full extent of the damage and any additional issues cannot be determined,” Perry said. “Conditions encountered during excavation could impact the final scope and cost of repairs.”
Residents may attend to learn more about the water park’s condition — and to ask questions and share their thoughts, the release states.
“City council is exploring several possible paths forward, including making significant investments to repair and reopen the water park, closing the facility, or pursuing alternative uses for the property,” states a press release from Mayor James R. Knight’s office. “No decision has been made, and community input will play an important role in helping inform next steps.”
