Pediatricians from across the Ohio Valley say this new wave of COVID-19 is sickening children with severe symptoms that require hospitalizations, as school districts continue to try to maintain in-person learning without closures.

Up to 1,000 city residents can receive $100 each if they get a COVID-19 vaccination between Sept. 13 and Oct. 31.

Republicans, who had long opposed Gov. Andy Beshear's handling of the pandemic, also advanced a bill to ban nursing home lockdowns.

The proposed municipal order aims to pay $100 each to as many as 1,000 city residents who become fully vaccinated between Sept. 13 and Oct. 31.

Beshear wants legislators to give him the authority to order masking at some level of infection, and has said he expects that to be the most contentious issue of a special session that beings Tuesday morning.

On Friday, there wasn't a single intensive care bed available in Christian County or within its 11-county region. In the majority of other areas, more than 95% of ICU beds were occupied.

Tentatively, the chamber plans to reschedule the dinner in June 2022.

Several colleges across western Kentucky have begun rolling out incentives for students and employees who get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The band said the Sept. 18 show in Hopkinsville and another show in Bowling Green were being canceled because of a rise in COVID-19 cases.

In some states, minors can legally decide for themselves whether they would like to get vaccinated.

As of Aug. 26, about 39% of U.S. hospitals had announced vaccine mandates, according to the American Hospital Association.

The Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health have warned against using ivermectin to treat COVID-19.
