Chamber delaying annual dinner because of COVID-19

Tentatively, the chamber plans to reschedule the dinner in June 2022.

The Christian County Chamber of Commerce has decided to reschedule its annual dinner meeting because of the rise in COVID-19 cases, chamber president and CEO Taylor Hayes said Friday.

The event was set for Sept. 28 with Jim McKelvey, co-founder of The Square, slated to give the keynote address. Tentatively, the chamber plans to reschedule the dinner in June 2022.

“This decision does not come lightly,” Hayes said in a news release.

He noted the dinner is an important tradition for civic and business leaders.

“At this time, there are just too many uncertainties among the membership given the rise of COVID-19 cases. We want this to be a worthwhile event for as many members as possible — as well as for our guest speaker, thus we determined it is best to host the dinner another time,” he said.

Chamber members who need additional information about the annual dinner should contact Kirstie Darnall, vice president of events and marketing, at 270-885-9096 or kdarnall@christiancountychamber.org.

The chamber’s release was the second announcement this week of a large event being canceled because of the spread of COVID-19. On Thursday, the band Trigger Hippy said it was postponing its Sept. 18 show at the Alhambra.
