Mayor’s Youth Council is accepting applications

High school juniors and seniors may apply until Sept. 16.

High school juniors and seniors in Christian County are eligible to apply for the Hopkinsville Mayor’s Youth Council, a program that aims to identify and encourage future community leaders.

“The best start is a head start, and that is truly the opportunity afforded to up to 25 of our community’s emerging leaders who participate in Mayor’s Youth Council. I encourage our young future leaders not to miss this unique opportunity,” Mayor Wendell Lynch said in a press release

Participants will learn about city government and opportunities to volunteer in the community.

Applications may be submitted online. The deadline to apply is Sept. 16. Students must provide an essay of 300 to 500 words, two letters of recommendation, a signed participant release form and a photograph.

Finalists will be offered a personal interview between Sept. 28 and 30. Students who are selected will attend a mandatory orientation on Oct. 19.
