Chris Jung, who previously worked as Hopkinsville’s marketing and events coordinator, has rejoined the city as public information officer, it announced Tuesday in a press release. Mayor James R. Knight Jr. created the new staff position.
Jung’s first day was Monday. His salary will be $74,349.
“Chris has been a positive advocate for our city for some time and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to our team,” Knight said in the release. “We are excited about the additional support the PIO position will provide and have no doubt that Chris’ skill set will effectively set the tone for the job.”
In the new role, Jung will work with all city departments and Hopkinville City Council to “gather facts for distribution and ensure cohesiveness and consistency,” according to the announcement. He also will be responsible for organizing special events, improving transparancy and promoting the city.
During his first stint with the city from 2018 to 2021, Jung worked to launch the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Sportsplex and was instrumental in the promotion and inception of Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation events like Hoptown Half Marathon and Hoptown Hose Down, the release states.
A graduate of Murray State University, Jung most recently served as the director of marketing and community relations for Jennie Stuart Health. In June, he was named co-chair of the United Way of the Pennyrile’s 2023-24 fundraising campaign. He is married to Brooke Jung, who has served as the Hopkinsville Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director since 2018.
