City of Hopkinsville hires CPA for budget work

The city of Hopkinsville has named a new employee as administrative budget officer.

Cory Alexander, a certified public accountant and the former finance director for the city of Madisonville, has 25 years of combined experience in municipal finance and public accounting, according to a press release. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Western Kentucky University.

Alexander began working for the city this week. 

“We are excited to welcome Cory to the city of Hopkinsville,” Melissa Clayton, chief financial officer, said in the release. “His experience in municipal finance, and his commitment to public service make him a valuable addition to our team.”

Alexander’s salary is $89,814, said Public Information Officer Amanda Brunt in response to a Hoptown Chronicle request for additional information. He fills a role recently held by Gary Ruebush. Brunt said Ruebush is no longer a city employee.

A resident of Nortonville, Alexander was raised in Hopkins County. He and his wife have two children, a daughter who is attending Murray State University, and a son in middle school.
