The forecast for a wintery mix of freezing rain and sleet prompted most schools in Christian County to call off classes for Tuesday.
Christian County Public Schools, Heritage Christian Academy and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School all announced Monday afternoon that they will be closed Tuesday for in-person learning while following plans for non-traditional instruction.
University Heights Academy waited until early Tuesday to make the decision to close. The school’s Facebook notice said it would be a “traditional snow day.”
“We’ve been very fortunate to make it this far into winter without facing inclement weather,” CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel said in a press release. “With the local weather management teams being very confident in the forecast, we wanted to make the decision early enough to allow families adequate time to prepare accordingly. Safety of our students is always the top priority when making decisions regarding the weather.”
Hopkinsville Community College is also closing Tuesday.
“Due to the forecast of inclement weather Hopkinsville Community College will be operating remotely on Tuesday …,” the college said in a Facebook post. “Students, check your KCTCS email and Blackboard for communication from faculty regarding your classes.”

HCC’s Religion and Philosophy Club announced that Tuesday’s talk by Buddhist monk Tsering Phuntsok is canceled.
