Tornado touched down Tuesday morning in Hopkinsville

There were no injuries reported in the storm.

A tornado with peak wind speeds of 85 mph touched down on the southwest side of Hopkinsville early Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service office at Paducah has confirmed.

The EF0 tornado touched down at about 4:35 a.m. on Pyle Lane near Cox Mill Road and traveled east, mostly near Cox Mill Road, for 1.2 miles, according to the NSW report.

“Most of the damage was in the form of several large snapped tree limbs,” the report states. “A cinder block garage lost its roof, and an adjacent portion of a house sustained roof damage. A large carport was lifted and tossed into a wooded area.”

The path of the tornado ended near Country Club Lane. It was 50 yards at its widest point.

Tornadoes are classified on the enhanced F-scale rating from EF0, which is the weakest with wind speeds of 65 to 85 mph, to EF5, which is catastrophic with winds exceeding 200 mph.

There were no reports of injuries in Tuesday’s storm.
