The Mixer restaurant will reopen on New Year’s Eve

A limited number of VIP seats are up for auction on Black Friday. More details about general ticket sales for the first night will be announced soon, co-owner Heather Dawson said.

The Mixer, which sustained significant damage in the storm that hit downtown Hopkinsville on May 31, will reopen on New Year’s Eve, the restaurant announced Friday.

Owners Graham and Heather Dawson announced a silent auction that will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Black Friday for limited, VIP seating on New Year’s Eve.

The winning bidders will receive a five-course meal, wine pairings and new branded merchandise while enjoying music from Cayce Burks and the Moonlight Band. Bids will be accepted through Facebook messenger or by email at themixerky@gmail.com.

There are two seatings on New Year’s Eve, at 5 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Patrons will be bidding on the Founders’ Table (eight seats) or one of the four bar booths. Two bar booths seat four diners and two seat two diners.

Details will be announced next week for general ticket sales at the restaurant’s remaining tables, Heather Dawson said in a video announcement.

The restaurant first opened its doors in late-2019, only to be hit by the pandemic months later.

When straight-line winds hit the former Young Hardware building on Sixth Street, it tore off more than half of the roof and a portion of the front and side exterior. Bricks, lumber and insulation were hurled into the air, landing blocks away. Most of the restaurant equipment and interior furnishings also were damaged by water when pipes burst.

Graham and Heather Dawson, who own The Mixer, and building owner Hal McCoy agreed immediately that they wanted to repair the historic property and began construction within a month of the storm. Insurance helped to cover equipment and supply losses, as well as wages for some of the restaurant employees. A GoFundMe that raised nearly $13,000 helped to cover wages for others.

Initially, the Dawsons estimated repairs would take nine to 10 months to complete.

In the meantime, the Grahams will serve customers from a mobile kitchen at Hopkinsville Brewing Co., as they did leading up to the restaurant’s initial opening.
