MLK Jr. Day March canceled but HCC program still on Monday morning

A march will begin at 9 a.m. at Freedom Elementary School, and a program will follow at Hopkinsville Community College.

Hopkinsville’s observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day will not include a march this year because of frigid cold temperatures forecast for Monday, Jan. 19, but a program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Hopkinsville Community College Auditorium. Doors will open at 9 a.m.

The Rev. Joe Leavell will give the keynote address. The theme is Building Community, Uniting a Nation.

The program will include an award presentation for the MLK School Challenge sponsored by Tom Bell State Farm Insurance. The award recognizes the school the greatest participation of students in the event.

The Human Rights Commission of Hopkinsville-Christian County organizes the annual MLK Day observance.
