Hopkinsville’s Big Read has more offerings in November

Events include a workshop on writing thank you notes, a book discussion, the Sons of Mystro concert, a quilt program and Community Reader Day.

The goals of the Big Read program — a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest — are to inspire meaningful conversations, celebrate local creativity, elevate a wide variety of voices and perspectives, and build stronger connections in each community, according to the NEA’s website

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Hopkinsville’s has received nine Big Read grants to date. From book discussions and concerts to craft workshops and poetry readings, the events celebrating this year’s Big Read (and those prior) check all the boxes.

This year’s celebration will wrap up on Nov. 17 with a Community Reader Day, when volunteers will read to classes across Christian County to promote literacy. If you’re interested in participating, email the Christian County Literacy Council at cclc42240@gmail.com.

There are several other opportunities to get involved in the next two weeks. They include a workshop about the art of thank you notes, a book discussion at the Pennyroyal Area Museum, a Sons of Mystro concert at the Alhambra Theatre and a quilt program.
