The Human Rights Commission of Hopkinsville-Christian County will host the community’s annual Women’s History Month Celebration at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at The Book & Bottle Shop, 123 E. Ninth St.
The recipient of the 2026 Fannie Bronson Postell Woman of the Year will be announced during the event. The commission will also recognize the top three scholarship applicants and the person receiving this year’s Women Educating Women Scholarship.
The Woman of the Year Award is named for a Hopkinsville educator. Postell, born in 1863, was a graduate of Berea College and began her career at Jackson Street School in Hopkinsville. She became the superintendent of the local school system for Black students in 1907 and was instrumental in organizing the city’s high school for Black students, Attucks, where she later became principal.
The theme for this year’s Women’s History Month is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”
