Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation halting most indoor activities

Christian County's status as a "red zone" county prompted the changes.

City officials announced today that the Parks and Recreation Department will halt most indoor activities, starting Monday, Nov. 9, because of Christian County’s continued “red zone” status for the coronavirus

“Open gym sessions, classes, events, rentals and gatherings at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex and Thomas Street Recreation Center will cease for at least one week,” Marketing and Events Coordinator Chris Jung said in a news release. “With the guidance of the Christian County Health Department and local officials, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation will evaluate these closures on a weekly basis.”

Free walking from 8 a.m. to noon weekdays will continue at the Sportsplex, along with socially distanced use of batting cages for baseball, softball and golf. Masks are required for all visitors. Reservations should be made by calling 270-985-1700.

Outdoor facilities remain open with health department COVID-19 guidelines in place at the Hopkinsville Greenway, the skatepark, dog park and Tie Breaker Athletic Park Walking Trail.
