Hopkinsville is accepting applications for Mayor’s Youth Council

Public, private and home-school students may apply. The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 17.

Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight Jr.’s office is accepting applications for the eighth Mayor’s Youth Council, a leadership program for high school juniors and seniors in Christian County.

“I encourage our young future leaders not to miss this unique opportunity,” Knight said in a press release.

Public, private and home-school students may apply.

“Serving on the council affords young people the opportunity to address issues that affect the community and offer youth-centered solutions and ideas to local government,” the release states. “The program also provides a platform for students to enhance leadership skills and unlock a spirit of volunteerism.”

The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 17. Applications may be submitted online. Students need to provide a resume, two letters of recommendation and a signed release form.

Finalists will be offered a personal interview between Oct. 27 and 30. Selection notices will be sent on Nov. 3, and a mandatory orientation is slated on Nov. 15.

Youth council members will meet at 4:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
