Hip hop show celebrating influential cultural icons coming to Alhambra

Shaun Boothe will perform “Unauthorized Biography Series — Live Your Legacy” on Feb. 20 for students and members of the public.

Hip hop artist Shaun Boothe, known for performances that celebrate influential cultural icons, will present his “Unauthorized Biography Series — Live Your Legacy” on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Alhambra Theatre.

The Black History Month program is part of the Pennyroyal Arts Council’s smARTS Series, which brings live arts performances to Hopkinsville for local students.

“Designed for grades 6-12, this 50-minute performance delivers an inspiring message of resilience and empowerment, connecting young audiences with cultural icons who have shaped history,” states a press release from the arts council.

Boothe’s multimedia hip-hop show celebrates the lives and legacies of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., President Barack Obama, pioneering reggae musician Bob Marley and Pakistani activist for female education Malala Yousafzai.

Members of the public may join students at two shows — at 9:30 a.m. and noon. Tickets are $10.

The Unauthorized Biography Series is described as “half TED talk, half live concert,” using “music, multimedia, and motivation to deliver powerful and transformative messaging” for the audience. “… the series introduces students to leadership, success strategies, and overcoming adversity in an innovative and relatable way.”

Support for smARTS programming is provided by Christian County Public Schools, Flynn Enterprises Inc., First United Methodist Church, Tennessee Valley Authority, Rotary International, Kiwanis International, Vanderbilt Pediatric Associates, United Southern Bank and the Kentucky Arts Council.

Tickets are available online or at the door.
