Heat advisory in effect through Thursday

The National Weather Service warned that heat indices will be in the range of 105 to 110 degrees.

The Fourth of July holiday coincides with the start of an oppressive heat wave that will make outdoor activities uncomfortable — and dangerous in some situations — for most of the week.

A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Monday until 9 p.m. Thursday for a large swatch of the Midwest and South.

Heat indices will range from 105 to 110 degrees, the National Weather Service reported.

The NWS forecast states, “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.”

The heat index is a measurement of the temperature that humans perceive based on the combined effects of the temperature and humidity. It indicates the level of discomfort the average person experiences.
