Most of Western Kentucky — including Christian, Todd and Trigg counties — is under an heat advisory through 7 p.m. Tuesday.
High temperatures will be in the upper 90s and heat index values will be as high as 108, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
The heat index value indicates how hot the temperature feels to the human body when the relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness. Residents are urged to be careful about time spent outdoors.
“Take extra precautions when outside,” the NWS advised. “Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
