Freeze warning issued; Halloween will be a chilly fright

The first hard freeze of the season will occur overnight Monday, and nighttime lows below freezing will persist through Thursday.

A freeze warning is in effect Monday evening through Tuesday morning in Hopkinsville and surrounding areas.

Residents are urged to remove garden hoses from outdoor faucets and to cover plants, such as fall mums, to prevent damage.

This will be the first hard freeze of the season. Monday’s overnight low temperature will be around 26 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast

“This hard freeze is expected to bring the growing season to an end,” the NWS stated.

Cold nighttime temperatures will persist through Thursday with lows at or below freezing. Halloween trick-or-treaters will need extra layers below their costumes to stay warm Tuesday evening.
