Derrick Watson, who is retiring at the end of the year as president and CEO of the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, will be grand marshal for the city’s Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 13.
“Christmas Vacation” is the theme for the HES/EnergyNet Night Christmas Parade, organizers at Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation recently announced. The parade, following its traditional route along Main Street in the heart of downtown Hopkinsville, will begin at 5:15 p.m.

“This year’s festive theme, ‘Christmas Vacation,’ invites participants and spectators alike to celebrate the joy, humor and warmth of the holiday season,” a city spokesperson said in a press release.
Hopkinsville Electric System began sponsoring the parade several years ago when city officials decided to shift to a nighttime parade, which showcases lighting for floats and other entries.
“The Night Christmas Parade is one of Hopkinsville’s most cherished traditions, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson said in the release. “We look forward to seeing our community come together and showcase their holiday spirit with this year’s fun and family-friendly theme.”
Floats, vehicles, bands, golf carts and others may enter the parade for a $20 fee and a toy donation. Cash prizes are given in traditional float divisions, along with a People’s Choice Award that WKDZ/WHVO awards to the most popular float.
The deadline to enter is Dec. 3. Entry forms are available at the Thomas Street Recreation Center. More information is available online or by calling the Recreation Center at 270-887-4290.
