There’s a deadline approaching for runners who want to get an early bird discount on registration for the inaugural Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K.

The races are Sept. 28, and there’s a $10 discount for those who register by midnight July 31, according to a news release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.

Organizers hope to attract 1,000 runners. The race day coincides with two other events downtown the last weekend of September — the second annual Hoptown HarvestFest and Kentucky Bourbon Mashoree, and the Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Chili Cook-off.

Planters Bank is the half marathon sponsor, and Jennie Stuart Health is the 5K sponsor.

Proceeds from the race will benefit non-profit partners of United Way of the Pennyrile.

Runners in the half marathon will receive a commemorative medal and a long-sleeve performance shirt.

Race-day registration and packet pickup will be at the Christian County Justice Center downtown.
