CCHS jazz band performing Tuesday at the Alhambra

The Christian County High School Jazz Band will perform Tuesday at the Alhambra, before the group heads to Louisville for a state education conference.

The Christian County High School Jazz Band will have a community performance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Alhambra Theatre downtown to celebrate the group’s invitation to the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference later this week in Louisville.

The Alhambra concert is billed as a send-off for the students, whose group is the only high school jazz band invited to the conference, according to a news release from Christian County Public Schools.

“The students have worked very hard for this opportunity and are looking forward to showcasing their talents to the community,” CCHS Director of Bands Anthony Darnall said in the release. “They deserve a celebration for their hard work.”

The performance will feature two guest soloists — Dr. Todd Hill, director of Jazz Studies at Murray State University, and  Dr. Derek Jones, director of bands at Bethel University. At the Louisville conference, the jazz band will be joined by world-renowned trombone soloist Harry Watters.

Tickets for Tuesday’s performance are $5.
