Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hampton Inn & Suites.

The Christian County Literacy Council will announce the award winners in its 2025 bell hooks Memorial Writing Contest during a celebration of all the entries at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Hampton Inn & Suites, 210 Richard Mills Road.

The theme for this year’s contest was “learning.”

Awards for first and second place will be given for poetry, essays and short stories in four age groups — 5-8, 9-12, 13-17, and adult.

The contest is a memorial to the author bell hooks, who was born as Gloria Jean Watkins in Hopkinsville.

The public is invited to the award ceremony. Copies of the complete collection from this year’s contest will be available to purchase.
