Students in Christian County Public Schools will get a traditional snow day on Friday as schools remain closed because of snow and ice that remains on some local streets and county roads.
“Because this is a traditional snow day, there will be no NTI work and no student check-ins required,” district spokeswoman Johnna Brown said in a press release. “This day will be made up on Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 16, allowing us to remain on track with the remainder of the school calendar.”
The district plans for students to return to school on Monday, Feb. 9. An update on that plan will be announced Sunday.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel addressed the extended time away from the classroom in a video posted to social media Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service forecast indicates conditions that should help melt more of the snow and ice that remains in the region. Friday’s high temperature will reach 49 degrees. Saturday will be cold again with a high of 35. However, Sunday the temperature will climb to 50 degrees, followed by 58 on Monday, 65 on Tuesday and 60 on Wednesday.
Friday will be the 10th consecutive school day that students have been home since a winter storm hit the weekend of Jan. 24.
“We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and endurance during this extended closure. We understand the challenges this creates for families and the importance of returning to normal routines. We are grateful to our staff for their continued efforts to support students and families during this time,” Brown said.
Families of students in all grades may pick up food bundles from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Christian County Middle School.
The Inspire Early Learning Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday.
