Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K will affect traffic Friday and Saturday

Race organizers are urging motorists to be patient for the safety of runners.

The sixth annual Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K races will affect traffic on Saturday, Oct. 19, with some street closures, lane reductions and rolling barricades provided by police for the runners, officials with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation said in a press release.

The races begin at 8 a.m. and close at noon. Organizers expect close to 300 runners. Here’s a map of both race routes.

“Motorists are asked to exercise patience for the safety of everyone,” the release states.

Both races will start on South Main Street — the half marathon at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:20 a.m. Officers and volunteers will be at intersections to stop traffic as the runners pass through.

In preparation for the event, Ninth Street will be closed between the intersection of Seventh and Ninth streets and Bethel Street at 5 p.m. Friday. It will reopen at 2 p.m. Saturday.
