Freeman Chapel CME Church, 137 S. Virginia St., is offering an incentive to the first 25 people who come to the church for a COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, June 16. Along with the vaccine, they will be treated to a catered lunch from Four Seasons, said the Rev. Lisa Lewis Balboa.
Members of the church came up with the incentive to help address Christian County’s low vaccination rate. The Council of National Black Churches is working with local congregations to encourage vaccinations in U.S. communities, said Balboa.
The Christian County Health Department will administer the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the church from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Both vaccines are approved for people 18 and older. There is no charge for the vaccine.
The Four Seasons lunch will include chicken wraps, chips, pasta salad and dessert.
