Health department slates another flu shot clinic

Most insurance covers the full cost of the flu shot.

The Christian County Health Department has scheduled its third drive-thru flu shot clinic of the season for Wednesday, Nov. 4.

It will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at Tie Breaker Park, coinciding with the health department’s ongoing COVID-19 testing program.

The cost is $30 for a regular dose and $50 for a high dose (given to people 65 and older). The health department accepts insurance, and most people do not have to pay for the shot if they bring a valid insurance card.

Anyone who wants to get a flu shot and a COVID-19 test on Nov. 4 has that option, health department spokesman Amanda Sweeney said. There is no charge for a COVID-19 test.

Entrance to the flu shot clinic and COVID-19 testing is through the Stadium of Champions parking lot on LaFayette Road.

The health department also gives flu shots Monday through Friday at the agency on Canton Street. Appointments should be made by calling in advance at 270-887-4160.

Health officials are urging everyone to get a flu shot this year because influenza and COVID-19 share some of the same symptoms. Experts have warned that a large number of flu cases along with a rise in coronavirus could overwhelm medical facilities and physicians’ offices.
