The Christian County Health Department reported five new coronavirus cases on Friday, pushing the total number of local cases confirmed since the pandemic began to 796.
The county’s seven-day average of new cases dipped to nine. The metric has declined over the last week but remains 28.7% higher than two weeks ago.
As of Friday afternoon, 243 local COVID-19 cases were classified by the health department as active.
The number total active cases by age from the health department is:
- Youth (0-21): 55
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 128
- Older Adult (60-84): 53
- Elderly (85+): 7
The health department also issued a clarification Friday to address questions about a disparity between local and state case numbers. On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Christian County had 70 new cases of COVID-19, the second most of any county in the state. However, the local health department reported five new cases on Thursday.
In a Facebook video, health department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said the numbers being reported by Kentucky are delayed because the reports have to go through more channels before state officials report them.
“The numbers we have are the most recent numbers,” she said.
