The Christian County Health Department reported the second-largest weekly total of new coronavirus cases this week, as the total number of active cases also reached a new high.
Sixty-three newly confirmed cases were reported this week, with three new cases Saturday. The highest weekly total was reported last week with 88 cases.
Among the active coronavirus cases in Christian County are several residents and employees of three local long-term facilities, according to a state government database.
They include three residents and two staff at Carriage Hall Assisted Living, 313 Cool Water Court; one resident and four staff at Covington’s Convalescent and Rehab Center, 115 Cayce Ave.; and two residents and two staff at Western State Nursing Facility, 2400 Russellville Road.
The data released Saturday from the state included one previously unreported death at Covington’s Convalescent. The Christian County Health Department announced the fifth local death from complications of COVID-19 on Friday — an 80-year-old man with underlying health conditions.
Previously testing positive at local care facilities were two additional residents and one staff member at Covington’s Convalescent and two additional residents and one staff member at Western State Nursing Facility. Also, one staff member at Bradford Heights Health and Rehab, 950 Highpoint Drive, was previously positive for the virus.
The Christian County Health Department does not provide information to the public on coronavirus in local facilities.
The state’s coronavirus website notes, “Positive cases of the novel coronavirus in long-term care facilities are reported every day by local health departments and long-term care facilities to the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH). The state DPH makes this information available to the public most every day on kycovid19.ky.gov.”
The county’s number of active cases has grown by 60% in the last two weeks. As of Saturday, 186 local COVID-19 cases were active, up from 116 on July 12, according to the health department. Since the pandemic began, 474 total cases have been reported, with 283 recovered.
The number of confirmed, active cases by age group are:
- Youth (0-21): 45
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 111
- Older Adult (60-84): 23
- Elderly (85+): 7
