The seventh annual Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K races will affect traffic Saturday morning in downtown Hopkinsville and in other areas of the city. Motorists are urged to be patient and careful.
Approximately 300 runners are expected, according to a press release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation. Both races begin at the Christian County Justice Center between Seventh and Ninth streets with the half marathon entrants starting at 8 a.m. and the 5K runners at 8:20 a.m.

The runners, who have been instructed to stay on the right-hand side of streets, will be accompanied by police in lead and trail vehicles.

“Several streets will only allow one-way traffic during the race period. Race officials and local law enforcement have worked together on plans to minimize traffic inconveniences and maximize traffic flow,” the release states.
The half marathon route streets are as follows:
- Justice Center parking lot (Start Line)
- Main Street (from Ninth Street – Alumni Avenue)
- Alumni Avenue (from South Main – Latham Avenue)
- Latham Avenue (from Alumni – Cox Mill Road)
- Cox Mill Road (from Alumni to Gary Lane)
- Gary Lane (from Cox Mill to LaFayette Road)
- LaFayette Road (from Gary Lane to Hopkinsville bypass)
- Hopkinsville bypass (from LaFayette Road – Foston Chapel Road)
- Foston Chapel (from Hopkinsville bypass – Rail Trail)
The 5K route streets are:
- Justice Center (starting line)
- Sterling Drive (from Cox Mill – Faulkner Drive)
- Faulkner Drive (from Sterling – Rail Trail)
- Phelps Avenue (from 15th Street – 16th Street)
- 16th Street (from Phelps – Cherry)
- Cherry Street (from 16th Street – 15th Street)
- 15th Street (Greenway to Canton Street)
- Bethel Street (Canton to Ninth Street)
The half marathon runners will have until noon to finish their course.
