YMCA opening day-care center for children of health workers, first-responders and others involved in coronavirus response

The center will care for children ages 6 to 12.

The Hopkinsville YMCA has received state approval to serve as a day-care center for children of people employed in the response to the coronavirus outbreak. They include health-care facility workers, first-responders, corrections officers and Department for Community Based Services employees.

The YMCA, on Eagle Way, is currently closed for regular operations under Gov. Andy Beshear’s order this week to temporarily shutter gyms, theaters, concert halls and hair and nail salons. Another order closed child care centers.

The Y’s center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for children ages 6 to 12. It will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 20.

The fee for care is $30 a day.

Parents may register online beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19.
