Town hall slated for Hopkinsville’s Lot Next Door program

The meeting on March 31 will outline how residents can apply to acquire vacant lots next to their property.

Information about the city’s Lot Next Door program will be highlighted during a town hall meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, 715 S. Virginia St.

The Lot Next Door program allows city residents to apply to acquire vacant lots next to their own property by paying a $25 application fee and investing in a sweat equity period of 12 months to demonstrate they will keep the lots mowed and free of debris.

“The program is designed to help return vacant land to productive use, strengthen neighborhoods and encourage community investment,” a city press release states.

There are approximately 1,000 vacant lots in the city.

“During the town hall, city staff will walk through the steps involved in the program, explain eligibility requirements and discuss how the application and review process works,” the release states. “Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how the program operates.”
