The report brings the county's total of confirmed cases since the pandemic began locally to 485. Of those, 185 are active and 295 are recovered, according to the health department.

"We are still at higher levels than we've ever been, but the fact that we are seeing that decline over the last few weeks is very important," said Dana Quesinberry, research core director for the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center. "There is hope that we are making progress again, so whatever triggered the increase is being managed or mitigated in some way." 

As of Sunday, 40% of all Christian County coronavirus cases confirmed since the pandemic began locally were active.

Among the active coronavirus cases in Christian County are several residents and employees of three local long-term facilities, a state database shows.

Dr. Deborah Birx told hundreds of emergency managers and other state and local leaders that they should act quickly to stem the outbreaks. Among her recommendations were to trace the contacts of patients testing positive for COVID-19 in areas where test positivity is going up.

The Imagination Library provides free, age-appropriate books each month to children from birth to kindergarten. Locally, approximately 3,400 children are enrolled.

Christian County Clerk Mike Kem reports mail-in ballots here went up approximately 75% compared to a typical election.

Nearly one-fourth of the county's 176 active cases are in the youngest category for people from birth to age 21.

East Ninth Street will be closed at the rail crossing between Whistle Stop Donuts and the old depot Monday and Tuesday.

As of Wednesday there were 163 active cases, the Christian County Health Department reported.

Lynch said the veto is something that “should never be done loosely,” but he cited overwhelming reaction in the community to changing the city’s system of elections — especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

The department also provided information on how to report COVID-19 complaints in the community.
