Wednesday marked the third day in a row that local health officials reported more than 20 new coronavirus cases in a single day.

The woman's death is the county’s 10th attributed to coronavirus since the pandemic began and the fifth in the last two weeks.

As the virus continues to spread in Christian County, health officials caution residents to remember that people who are asymptomatic can still spread COVID-19.

The woman is the fourth person whose death has been attributed to COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

Among the new cases, there were 13 children ages 5 and younger who tested positive for COVID-19.

As of Monday, there were 180 active cases of the virus in Christian County.

The health department reported 51 new cases this week — nearly half of last week's total and less than any week in the month of July.

The health department also reported five newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the county’s case total to 618.

Mary Bronaugh devoted much of her adult life to civic and political work. A suffragist, she was a founding member and the first chairwoman of the Kentucky League of Women Voters.

It is the county's third death attributed to COVID-19 in the last two weeks.

The governor said some schools that opened early in other states have had to close due to surges in cases.

Beshear reported that 638 Kentuckians are hospitalized for COVID-19, but he did not note that the figure was the highest daily hospital census yet attributed to the disease in Kentucky. It was a 4% jump from the 612 reported Monday.
