Beginning in early February, the state expects to significantly ramp up vaccination efforts for a large group of Kentuckians. The commonwealth is partnering with Kroger to establish high volume regional vaccination centers.
During Thursday’s coronavirus briefing, Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack said anyone 60 and above will be among those seen at these drive-through facilities.
“People with health care conditions that are proven to be associated with severe COVID and also the CDC assigned essential workers. For the essential workers and for those with healthcare conditions, the CDC has defined that list and we’re mirroring it exactly. If they evolve it, we will evolve it to mirror it exactly. So, we’re not re-defining that,” said Stack.

Governor Beshear says information about the specific vaccination sites and sign-up procedures will come at the end of January. The schedule calls for all k-12 education personnel to complete their vaccinations by the end of the first week in February.
Kentucky has seen more than 3,000 COVID-19 related deaths, including 51 announced Thursday. There were 4,084 new cases of coronavirus.
The governor also announced 270 members of the Kentucky National Guard will be in Washington and provide assistance through the Presidential Inauguration Tuesday. In addition, Beshear said guard troops will also be on duty around the state capitol this weekend where one of the coordinated protests is expected.
