Santa Claus is coming to Hoptown’s neighborhoods

The tour will start at 1 p.m. Sunday, with three Hopkinsville fire trucks bringing Santa to several neighborhoods.

Santa Claus will be making a big tour of Hopkinsville riding on a fire truck Sunday afternoon and will be followed by a police cruiser packed with goodie bags for children.

To be precise, three fire trucks will carry the jolly old elf through the city’s streets, each followed by a police cruiser, but some magic might be involved to make that happen with the one and only Saint Nicholas.

“Only Santa is fast enough to travel around town with three separate, simultaneous runs, which will begin at 1 p.m.,” an organizer with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation described.

“We realize this has been a tough year for everyone, so we’ve been searching for unique ways we can still put smiles on the faces of children and families this weekend,” Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman said in a news release. “This idea was quickly brought to life by our willing partners and sponsors, and we [are] grateful to all of them for bringing Santa Claus to Hoptown.”

The Santa Claus is Comin’ to Hoptown outing will follow these three routes.

Families should be prepared to take photos from a safe distance because Santa Claus will not be climbing down from the fire truck.

The event has several sponsors. In addition to the Parks and Recreation and the police and fire departments, those are Planters Bank, Hopkinsville Electric System, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and WHOP Radio.
