William Hardin Harrison

William Hardin Harrison, 90, of Lakewood, Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 18. A Pembroke native, he was a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Army. After graduating from William Jewell College with a bachelor’s degree in history, he entered the Army as an infantryman and attended basic training at Fort Knox. He also earned a master’s degree in public administration from Shippensburg State College. During a military career lasting 37 years, he commanded companies in the 101st Airborne Division and the 7th Infantry Division, a battalion in the 3rd Armored Division and a brigade in the 2nd Armored Division. After his retirement from military service, he became the first mayor of Lakewood. No funeral arrangements had been announced as of Saturday, Feb. 24.
