Kenneth Arnold “The Doctor” Bates, 71, of First Street, Hopkinsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, at his residence. A former county magistrate and Hopkinsville Human Relations Commission member, he worked as a computer programmer and analyst, an electrical and plumbing inspector, and a traffic manager, and served as a local union steward for the United Auto Workers. He recently was president of the Hopkinsville chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He hosted gospel music programs for local radio stations in Hopkinsville and Elkton. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at All Nations House of Prayer, 313 Edwards Mill Road. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Gamble Funeral Home.
