John Lee Burman, 90, of Hopkinsville, died on Sept. 2, at his home following a lengthy illness. A native of Cox’s Creek in Nelson County, Kentucky, he graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He went on to farm nearly 2,000 acres in Christian County and was an early pioneer and proponent of no-till farming, being recognized twice with the Kentucky Master Conservationist Award while raising tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat and cattle. From 1960 until his retirement in 2015, he served as agency manager for Christian County Farm Bureau He also was a longtime member of the Christian County Agri-Business Association and First Baptist Church. He was a founding member of Pennyrile Citizens Bank and served in the Rotary Club for 15 years. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Sept. 6, at First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. A private burial will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Hughart, Beard, & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.
