Dr. Robert Sivley

Dr. Robert Sivley, 91, of Hopkinsville, died at 11:29 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, following a lengthy bout with several medical conditions. A native of Chattanooga Tennessee, he earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and PhD in clinical psychology before becoming licensed to practice in both Tennessee and Kentucky. He was the chief psychologist at Central State Hospital in Nashville from 1961 to 1967, while also serving on the staff of the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In 1967, he and his family moved to Hopkinsville, where he joined the newly formed Pennyroyal Mental Health Center as a staff psychologist. Within the year, he was appointed executive director, and he served in the role until his retirement in 1995. He worked as a consulting psychologist for the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center until 2014. Sivley also held part-time instructor positions at the University of Tennessee, Nashville (1960 – 1967), Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (1960-1961), George Peabody College (1964-1965), Middle Tennessee State University (1965-1966), and Hopkinsville Community College (1995-2008). In 2015, he was inducted into the Kentucky Psychological Hall of Fame. A memorial service will be held in the near future. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
