Blue Streak Printers building demolition completed

East Construction Co. brought the building down in less than two hours Thursday morning.

The Blue Streak Printers building on East Ninth Street was reduced to a heap of building debris as East Construction Co. demolished the structure Thursday morning.

City officials had announced on Wednesday that Ninth Street would be closed from South Main Street to South Virginia Street beginning at 8 a.m. and would remain closed to traffic until approximately 1 p.m.

Motorists and pedestrians “are advised to seek alternate routes,” a press release stated.

Hopkinsville City Council voted during a special meeting Tuesday night to demolish the building, which dates to the 1910s

The vote followed the recommendation of a structural engineer who inspected the building twice in October. After the second inspection, he wrote in a report that the building “is in imminent danger of collapse and poses a serious health and safety risk to the public.”
