Hoptown Chronicle has compiled a list of restaurants and entertainment-related businesses that are reopening.

A death over the weekend in Whitley County was reported Monday as Kentucky’s first storm-related fatality — a reminder of the dangers associated with extreme cold.

Sub-freezing temperatures are expected for much of the state into next week.

Most churches called off in-person worship, some businesses closed for the weekend and Christian County Public Schools will be closed through Wednesday.

A winter storm warning will be in effect from late Friday through Sunday evening. In addition to heavy snow, there is a possibility of ice accumulation in Christian County.

The National Weather Service warning indicates Hopkinsville and surrounding areas could experience wind gusts up to 40 mph late Sunday and early Monday.

The agency is also seeking community donations of supplies and financial contributions for the shelter.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday for Christian, Todd and Trigg counties. 

Extremely dry conditions prompted the bans on outdoor burning, city and county officials said.

Current methods for confirming if a tornado touches the ground rely on eyewitnesses or trained spotters.

High temperatures will be in the upper 90s and heat index values will be as high as 108.
