Dossett is a primary candidate for the seat currently held by Republican Walker Thomas.

The bill comes after a rocky relationship between Elkins and the Calloway County Public Library Board. Elkins previously served as Calloway County Judge/Executive before winning election to the fifth district house seat.

The session will likely reveal deep divisions in how to fund state government and whether or not to raise more revenue.

Economists estimate tax revenue will increase just 1.3% in the upcoming fiscal year and 1.8% in the year after that.

Cameron is a protégé of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and previously worked as a corporate attorney and spokesman for criminal justice reform group Kentucky Smart On Crime.

The new governor pointed to a Government Accountability Office report released in October that showed Kentucky’s estimate of implementing the waiver would cost $270 million.

Democrat Andy Beshear became Kentucky's 63rd governor and pledged a commitment to the state's "common good."

Bevin lost to Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear by a little more than 5,000. Beshear's inauguration is Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Beshear announced two of his eleven cabinet secretaries on Monday: former Lexington Mayor Jim Gray will serve as Transportation Cabinet secretary and Lt. Gov.-elect Jacqueline Coleman will be the next secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

The leader of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would instead be selected by members of influential lobbying groups — the Kentucky Association of Counties, the Kentucky League of Cities and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Beshear will officially be sworn in as governor at 12:01 a.m. on Inauguration Day as he takes over for outgoing Gov. Matt Bevin.

Bevin also issued pardons to 15 other people, including three women who were victims of domestic violence and who were convicted in the deaths of their abusers.
