An Evening at the Hotel Latham, featuring a program on the history of the iconic Hopkinsville hotel, is planned at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at The Crusty Pig restaurant.
“Built in 1894 on the site now home to The Crusty Pig, the Hotel Latham [was] named for and heavily financed by Hopkinsville native and benefactor John C. Latham Jr.,” event organizers with the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County said in a press release. “The hotel was an architectural masterpiece that welcomed guests like Theodore Roosevelt, Ethel Barrymore, and John Philip Sousa and his band. Noted for its elegant dining room, the hotel served as the cultural center for much of the community. The hotel burned in a dramatic fire on August 4, 1940.”
Alissa Keller, the museum executive director, will give a “program about the iconic business’s impact on the community featuring historic photographs and video of the hotel.”
The Crusty Pig will serve a buffet with salad, five different pizzas and gelato.
Tickets are $20 for museum members and $25 for non-members. Registration is available online or by visiting the Pennyroyal Area Museum, 217 E. Ninth St.
