Mardi Gras talk planned at Hopkinsville Community College

Community members are invited to learn about the religious and secular traditions of the holiday during the program at noon Tuesday.

The Humanities Club at Hopkinsville Community College will have a program at noon Tuesday, Feb. 13, about Mardi Gras traditions.

Have you ever wondered if Mardi Gras is a religious holiday or why many churches serve pancakes on Fat Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday?

Dr. Ken Casey, professor of religion and philosophy, and Shari Thompson, head of the music department at HCC, will lead the program. It’s open to students, staff, faculty and community members, Casey said in an email. Light refreshments will be served.

The program will be in Room 14 of the Auditorium Building
