2 local legislators receive ‘Friend of Kentucky Cities’ awards

The Kentucky League of Cities bestows the award upon legislators who advocate for issues that impact cities across the state.

State Reps. Myron Dossett (R-Pembroke) and Walker Thomas (R-Hopkinsville) were recently presented with “Friend of Kentucky Cities” awards by the Kentucky League of Cities, the membership association has announced.

The League bestows the award upon legislators who advocate for issues that impact cities across the state.

In an Oct. 19 press release announcing Dossett’s award, the League cited his support of Senate Bill 124, which helps local officials protect streets and bridges from overweight vehicle damage.

In the announcement, League Director of Public Affairs Bryanna L. Carroll remarked on the importance of having legislators who understand the central role cities play in attracting new residents and businesses to Kentucky.

A press release on Thursday announced Walker’s award, citing his support of Senate Bill 64, which protects the confidentiality of first responders who participate in peer support counseling programs.

“The language in Senate Bill 64 was important to the many people who respond in an emergency,” said League Executive Director and CEO James D. Chaney. “While cities raised concerns about the problem before the western Kentucky tornado, that tragedy highlighted the need to ensure first responders who rush to help others have confidentiality protection when they seek counseling from their peers. Representative Thomas helped us secure the measure’s final passage in the House. We appreciate his support and commitment to the citizens and first responders in his district and throughout the state.”
